Cold Temperatures

Environment Canada has issued Wind Chill warnings and has repeatedly alerted us to the dangers of exposed skin and the threat of frostbite.  It is extremely important that your child arrives at school properly dressed for our Canadian winters, with its sometimes extreme weather conditions.

When considering to send students out for recess, we follow the guidelines stipulated in “Well Beings – Canadian Pediatric Society, Second Edition 1996”.  Thresholds include -25 degrees Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit), regardless of the wind chill factor, or -28 degrees Celsius (-15 degrees Fahrenheit) with the wind chill.  It is important to remember that these are only guidelines and that student safety is always at the forefront when making this decision.
