Welcome Back and First Day of School
Published on Aug 30, 2019 15:19

Welcome back to another incredible year at St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic School.  I hope that all of our families had a wonderful and relaxing summer and that students are eager to come back.   I am very excited to be returning as your principal and to have the continued privilege of working with the children, families and staff at St. Jean de Brébeuf.   Our priority will continue to focus on creating a learning atmosphere in which students, staff and parents feel welcome, safe and respected. I am looking forward to another successful and faith-filled year at St. Jean de Brébeuf.

First Day

The first day of school is Tuesday September 3rd.  Classes begin at 8:45. On the first day of school, grade levels will be posted on outside doors, indicating where students will line up.  Teachers will be outside to assist any students, that need assistance. They will meet their students and bring them into the school when the bell rings.  In case of rain, parents can drop their child off at the side doors and students will meet their teacher in the gym. Parents will not be allowed in the school at this time, for the safety of the students.

For the first day only, parents/guardians are allowed in the backyard to help their child(ren) find their class line up.  Beginning Wednesday, parents must drop their child(ren) off at the gate. This is for the safety of all of our students. Kindergarten students may be dropped off at the kindergarten yard, on the south-west side of the school (off of the school parking lot).  Supervision in the both yards begins at 8:30am. Please do not drop your child off before this time, as there is no supervision.

Student Drop-off:

After 8:30, parents may drop students off in the bus lane in front of the school.  This is a one-way driveway.  Once a vehicle enters the driveway, it must continue the same direction and exit out the other end.  Backing up and driving out the entrance, in which cars and students are entering is extremely dangerous for our students.  If you choose to drop your child off in front of the school, and the bus is still there, you must wait for the bus to depart and then proceed out the exit.  Other options are parking on Miller Park Avenue or one of the neighbouring streets.

Parents are strongly encouraged, to remove their child from a door that is closet to the school building, as there is room for cars to pass, which is again very dangerous for students that exit out the driver side door.  Walkers should be using the sidewalk path along the front of the school, not crossing in front of cars.

Student Pick-Up:

Similarly at the end the of day, the driveway loop is one way.  Vehicles must not go backward and u-turn out the driveway. If you choose to pick your child up in front of the school, and the bus is still there, you must wait for the bus to depart and then proceed out the exit.  At 3:00 the parking lot will be pyloned off, from vehicles entering or leaving.  Vehicles that have parked in the parking lot will have to wait for the bus to leave and then exit to the right in front of the school.

Parking

Please note, there is no parking along the south side of Miller Park Dr. (the side of the street that the school in on) between the 1st and the 15th of every month and on the north side of Miller Park Dr. between the 16th until the end of the month.  No parking signs are clearly posted along the street with this information.

Also there is no parking anywhere along the entrance and exit of the school's driveway.  This is a fire route and provides a safe place for students to walk into the school.

South Simcoe Police and City By-Law Enforcers will be monitoring these no parking zones and ticketing if necessary.

Thank you for working together to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the St. Jean de Brébeuf community.
