Principal's Message

Welcome to our St. Jean de Brébeuf School Family!
St. Jean de Brébeuf has a long and proud tradition of serving the Bradford community. We are blessed to have a very talented, caring and family oriented staff.  It is a true pleasure and a privilege to serve in this diverse community where students, parents and members of the community create an atmosphere where all feel respected and welcomed.  All staff members take great pride in serving the St. Jean de Brébeuf family and are guided in their teaching and learning by our Catholic beliefs and values.
Our staff is proud to serve approximately 245 students from kindergarten to Grade 8.  The students and their families of SJB speak several different languages and represent different cultures.  Approximately one quarter of our students speak a language other than English.  We celebrate the community building opportunities that this diversity creates.
Our board-wide theme this year is "Called to be Our Story".  We are a "Family of Faith" that links our homes, our parish and our school.  We celebrate our faith through para-liturgies, school retreats, school spirit events and prayer.  Father Josh and Father Manni, our parish priests from Holy Martyr's of Japan Catholic Church, visits with our classrooms regularly, both at the school and at the church.  All students, staff and community members help to organize and contribute to a number of important educational, cultural, spiritual and social justice  events that contribute to this bond.

Our home-school partnership bond is strong.  We realize our parents are their child's first educators and we encourage their active participation at home and with the school.  The staff, students and parents work together at St. Jean de Brébeuf to support learning experiences that enhance the academic, social, physical and spiritual life of our school family.
We are pleased this year to continue to provide you with St. Jean de Brébeuf updates through our school e-blasts, classroom agendas, teacher communication, as well as our school website.  We encourage all families to subscribe to our E-Newsletter by clicking on the links on our website.   Our intention is to support our school's initiatives for a 'greener' environment.  The website adds additional resources at your fingertips without the requirement of printing wasteful paper copies.

We are very excited and honoured to have the privilege of working with the children and families of St. Jean de Brébeuf.  We look forward to a prosperous and faith-filled year.  God bless and keep you all.
Yours in faith,
Mrs. Melanie Barkell
